Applications

Writers:

Writers will be split into three categories: writers writing long pieces of fiction, writers writing shorter pieces of fiction, and poets. The number and volume of writers is entirely dependent on the number that apply and the quality of the applications. For writers doing long pieces of fiction, the following is expected: 1k word minimum and 2k word maximum (can work with 100 words over or under), 12 point font, and single spaced. For writers writing short pieces of fiction, the following is expected: 400 word minimum and 900 word maximum (can work with roughly 10-20 words over or under), 12 point font, and single spaced. For poets, the following is expected: 1-2 page poem, 12 point font, single spaced.

Moderators will be looking at the following when reviewing applications: characterization, vocabulary, plot, grammar, and spelling - to see that you review your pieces (or at least some of them). Fire Emblem pieces are not required, but showing pieces related to the game or Ferdinand himself is preferable.

Artists & Merch Artists:

For this zine, artists are expected to provide a full color illustration with a background. Moderators will be looking at composition, backgrounds, ability to draw anatomy well, style choices, and proof you can draw a background. Fire Emblem pieces are not required, but showing a Ferdinand piece would help give us an idea of how you’d draw him!

Merch Artists will be required to design one or more merch pieces to accompany the zine. During the grading process, moderators will look for the following: different styles, details, personality, and what kind of merch you work best with.

FAQ

Contents

Q: What format is this zine going to be in?
A: There will be both digital and physical copies of this zine with merch.

Q: Is this project for profit or for charity?
A: The default for all contributors was voted to be for profit. However, contributors have the option to donate some or all of their earnings towards the selected charity.

Q: What will the creation period consist of?
A: The creation period will consist of one concept check-in, three check-ins to measure progress, and one final deadline. Extensions will be given as needed, but the final deadline will be concrete and unable to be extended. This is to give mods optimal time to assemble the zine and quality check everything!

Q: How will contributors be compensated?
A: All contributors will receive equal pay.

Q: Are ships allowed in this zine?
A: Ships are allowed as long as the focus is on Ferdinand.

Q: Will this zine contain NSFW content?
A: This is a SFW zine. Safe for work content includes suggestive content (but not explicit), blood/disturbing imagery (with proper warning labels), and such! Please ask if you are unsure whether a piece falls under SFW or NSFW territory.

Q: What about AUs? Can we create content from AUs for this project?
A: Yes. AU content is allowed so long as the focus remains on Ferdinand and the rating remains acceptable to be included in the zine.

The Application Process

Q: Can I apply for multiple roles?
A: People can apply for multiple roles but will more than likely only get one role. The exception is an artist who applies for merch as well.

Q: If I apply for both writing roles, do both of my portfolios have to total 6k?
No. Your portfolios can total 12k in that situation; 6k for each role you apply to.

Creation Process

Q: Can I post WIPs or stream my piece?
A: We ask that contributors do not post WIPs and wait until preorders are out to share a preview of their pieces.
Q: Can I post or sell my finished piece?
A: After preorders are done, contributors may post and sell their finished piece. Creators retain full rights to their work.
